Got keyboard backlight controls working on Gateway T-6330u laptop with
the following addition to the kernel command line in grub:
nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor
Ubuntu 9.10, kernel version 2.6.31-14-generic. Didn't try others.

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
