This bug report is being closed because on last comment it seems that
this particualr issue was fixed with an update. For future reference you
can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status
in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop
down box. Yo

Ok, I run a jaunty, I've added the PPA, did apt-get update and apt-get
install vlc.
Now, the vlc segfaults. Here is the output:

There have been a large number of bugfixes with the latest VLC release,
1.0.0~rc2-1ubuntu1. Can you reproduce your issue with this latest
version? You can test this in Ubuntu Karmic, or Ubuntu Jaunty with the
MOTU Media PPA at https://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archive/ppa . Thanks

No, I haven't had that installed, but installing it did not solve the
issue.
I forgot to mention that everything was working fine before the upgrade.
