Um... I don't get any notifications from empathy in Jaunty. The options
are checked so is this fix not released?

Only one part of the trouble is fixed in Jaunty. The other part may be
easily fixed : this should be link to the Ubuntu sound theme that may
not contain sounds for IM events.

Same here I cant hear any sound whether the option is checked or not. I
am using Jaunty currently, did not have sound in Intrepid either.

Fixed in jaunty for audio notifications (you can modify options in the
preference window).
About visual notification, we might open an other bug.
