Great to see this being worked on!!! I have 0.8.1 installed on mine
because I built it from source and that worked great. Looking forward
to the Jaunty release and glad to hear that dvd-slideshow is being kept

Yes, I confirm it for Jaunty but it's fixed with dvd-slideshow version
0.8.2, but it still needs libavcodec-unstripped-52 (51 for Intrepid) to
be installed.
Putting it as a dependence of dvd-slideshow fixes the bug.

Ok, I made some test on Intrepid.
Installing ubuntu-restricted-extra fixes the bug because it replaces
libavcodec51 with libavcodec-unstripped-51.
libavcodec51 is a dependence of ffmpeg that installs it by default (as
other packages).
But ffmpeg dependence is libavcodec51 OR libavcodec-unstripp
I made some tests and that package alone doesn't fix the problem.
In a clean Intrepid install, for example, I get the same error even with
the new package (0.8.2) installed.
The problem vanish installing ubuntu-restricted-extras.
I mean that dvd-slideshow 0.8.2 is fundamental but it needs some
