I seem to have the same problem listed here, except the hang is a hard
crash. the screen does not go blank, but freezes with the gnome desktop
and mouse cursor still on but unmovable. ctrl-alt-backspace and ctrl-
alt-f# do not work. I can SSH in after the crash, but nothing I do
seems to be able
By disabling usplash the computer does shutdown but when i boot up again
it does not display anything until the ubuntu login. There is no bios
information, or grub menu... i have no idea what would be causing that
to happen.

It appears that the usplash somhow has failed... if i disable usplash it
works i tried reinstalling usplash but the problem persists... only
disabliing usplash works.

My hardware is different though, i have tried shutdown through the
terminal 'sudo halt' and 'sudo shutdown -H now' but this fails as well

I too have this problem, the system will hang indefinitely (I let my
computer sit at the blank screen for about 7 hours. However if i do not
log in to ubuntu and merely shutdown from the login screen it will
shutdown correctly. my log file shows an error saying the usplash is
