I'm unable to reproduce your problem. Could you please check if
/usr/share/applications/clamtk.desktop has some references to
"directory" in its MimeType field?

Thanks for your quick reply.
I've attached a zip file containing images showing what is happening.
The images are in 2 folders - correct screenshots (showing the expected
behaviour before the upgrade to 8.10 and also as it is when clamtk is removed).
