Could you please disable the 7.10 cdrom entry in your
/etc/apt/sources.list file (e.g. via the software sources editor build
into adept) and try again? It very likely that this is caused by server
overload of us.archive.ubuntu.com

I'm not completely certain my bug is the same, but it is close enough
not to file a separate bug report. I have Kubuntu 8.04 and tried to
upgrade to 8.10 over the Net. Following the instructions at
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading for Kubuntu, I ran the command
kdesu "adept_manager --dist
