I'm quite sure now that's a duplicate of bug 291233 and that it should have
been fixed in the final release of Intrepid (8.10).

Are you sure that 10-auth.conf really existed?
This sounds like bug 291233 (which refers to the file being renamed to
05-auth.conf and causing the "enabled" link to point to a non-existent file
now).
If so, please mark it as duplicate (or just report back here). Thanks.
