I followed Tom Muse's advice and removed MoviePlayer. I tried to remove
MoviePlayer(Gstreamer) also, but my computer wouldn't let me (so to
speak) because too many other applications are tied to it. Then I put
MoviePlayer back on [and also MoviePlayerTotem (xine backend) which
wasn't on before].
Hi, I'm randymanme. I'm a newbie -- earlier today, I had to go to the
glossary to find out what a terminal is. Choppy videos and/or videos
running in slow motion are a pain for me. Can I download Linux Mint
Main Edition without it adversely effecting my computer? I have Ubuntu
8.04. If I don't
or upgrade to 8.1 or mint..

Charles,
I have since moved from Ubuntu to Mint because of a few lingering issues that I
got tired of trying to fix. If you want an OS that works 99% out of the box I
would try Mint. I know this isn't a fix as much as it is a work around but
Mint is built on Ubuntu and they have pretty much se
Thats the 1st thing i tried. And still I have no player - not even for
my dvds. I just removed it rebooted then reloaded again . It still gives

I had similar experience when upgrading from intrepid to jaunty. Totem
plays in slow motion and besides the quicktime plugin stopped working.
After complete removing and then reinstalling them in synaptic they
started to work again.

A reinstall from Synaptic Package Manager worked in the past but this last
time I had to completely remove Totem and then install it again. So far
this has been the only issue I have had with 8.04 on my Eee PC.

I spent 2 hours last night working on it and I finally fixed it. What I did
to fix it was to remove Totem all together and then reinstall it again.
Then there was an update for Totem that I believe kept if from breaking
again. So far so good.

Thank you for your bug report. Does gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=file:///directory/example/video plays it correctly? could you add an
example to the bug? it's likely a gstreamer codec issue
