It must have occurred after an update, because it happened on both of my
computers. I immediately corrected the problem by removing archive
manager from the "open with" list, so I don't know if I'll be able to
reproduce it.

don't specify the ubuntu version you are using in the title, that
creates extra work and confusion, what tells you the bug is specific to
intrepid and jaunty will not have the issue too for example?
