Thanks for your comment. According to the fact that the problem
disappeared by itself and that I was not able to reproduce it on a fresh
intrepid installation, I set the status to invalid. This sounds more
like GNOME not correctly updating menus until it is restarted.

Due to another problem, I was forced to logout and log back in to
gnome. Lo and behold, the gnucash menu icon is correct now. I’m not
sure what got updated, though I have been installing updates every
morning.
Looking through /var/log/apt/term.log doesn’t show anything useful.

This is weird indeed. I can't reproduce this bug on any computer with
gnucash and intrepid. Concerning System Cleaner, this is normal because
this applicate does not have any icon so far (unless this changed in the
last days). So I'm not sure where the problem belong..

Nope, gtk-update-icon-cache didn’t fix the problem.
It it matters, Applications → System Tools → System Cleaner has the
same issue.
