This low volume problem appears to be prevalent on many laptops,
including my Acer with an intel chipset. However, jaunty does not have
a modprobe.d file. Can someone suggest another workaround where the
laptop line can be added? Thanks.

The following option did work for me as a work-around and now both the
speakers and the front headphone jack work as they should.

HP 6830s, 82801I (ICH9 Family). Internal sound work for me with options
snd-hda-intel model=laptop.
Maybe it will be good idea to define this line in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to all laptops be default? Or it cool to write
this line every time after Ubuntu reinstall :)

My question is if "enable=1 index=0" is needed. In comment 4 you say
that you needed "model=laptop" but in comment 5 you have added "enable=1
index=0" as well. And I was asking anyone of you :)

There is no fix in 8.10 yet. But you can fix it easily by yourself by
adding
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0
to the file /etc/modprobe.d/options. If you don't know how: Press
Alt+F2, type for example
gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options
press enter, write the options line abov
My Hp 6735s is sound problem ,headphones works right and integrated
speakers is quiet. Ubuntu is 8.10 and 1.17 alsa drivers. Possible fix in

So the problem is fixed by myself :) There is a file
/etc/modprobe.d/options. There I added
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop enable=1 index=0
and now everything works fine. Hope somebody else can use this
information.
