Just tried it with Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 final and it worked to enable
nVidia driver, so this bug can be closed.

I strongly believe this is a duplicate of bug 273231 or similar fixes,
and is fixed in intrepid final. I can't reproduce it with the current
version.
