Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting
with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver
by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because

drivers, but x is trying to load xserver-xorg-video-nv. If you installed the
binary drivers from nvidia.com to get into this situation you will want to run

It would seem the xorg.conf doesn't really matter; the first time this
happened it was using the output that nvidia-settings gave, this time
it's a handcrafted one for nouveau.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
