I am having the same problem. When I try
Insert->Footnote->Character/other-> and then press the button to insert
the character, it hangs. I can reproduce it each time.
I am using
OpenOffice 2.4.1 (English)
Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex)

Hi,
I have tested the new OpenOffice 3.0 version on Ubuntu 8.10 and can't
reproduce this bug anymore.
I can open the "insert footnote" dialog and can tab through all
elements. When I click on the push button "..." the "Special Characters"
dialog opens and I can work with it.

Hi,
I could reproduce this bug with the german version of Ubuntu 8.10.
The 'insert footnote' dialog worked as long as the assitive technology was not
activated.
After activating the assistive technology and a restart of the pc I
tryed again. The 'insert footnote' dialog did not work. OpenOffice

reproduce this issue on 8.10.

after several sampling I created a new hopefully useful Backtrace.
The description on the WIKI page "Backtrace" "1. Generation" was not detailed

I found out that this bug is related to accessibility.
We tested this on five different PCs, all with the same software configuration.
The bug did only appear on four of these computers. We found out, that for the
PC where the 'insert footnote' dialog worked, the accistive technolog

I think it's only a problem with german version.
If I changed the language settings e.g. to English (USA), I can open the
"Insert Footnote" dialog, I can click on the push button and the "Special
Characters" dialog is opened.
If I changed back the dialog hangs.

The document I used is a new unsaved writer document with simple text.
I can reproduce this crash every time with every document (on other computers
with german version too).
Operations:
- I start OpenOffice Writer, wrote some text.
- start the menu: Insert -> Foot
