I have an ATI video chip, and use fglrx. The most obvious change seems indeed be my "up"grade to 8.10... Before the upgrade, with 8.04 and kde3, all was fine and dandy. Yes, this also happens with a new user (this screenshot is from a newly created user). -- "add widgets" in the panel has white
