After reading the information here: http://forum.compiz-
fusion.org/showthread.php?t=9628, it seems to me the problem I described
above might not be related to this bug report and it can be solved by
reset the settings in animation section in ccsm.

I also noticed some other regression after upgrading to 0.7.8, the
open/close animations no longer work while focus/shade animations are
not affected.
Instead of opening a new bug report, I append this issue here because
they seem to be similar problems both related to compiz-core/compiz-
plugins
