For what is it worth, I also struggled with this bug following a fresh install
of Ubuntu 8.04.2 following
the same steps as the OP (i.e. new user account.) I did finally resolve it by
clicking on the time/date
area of the upper panel, then the edit location and then set followed by
entering my
If network-manager is a piece of software that attempts to connect to
wired and wireless networks automatically, then yes, I've seen that
process around. And waiting after adding a location did not do
anything... though now the bug seems to be fixed on the laptop even if I
reproduce the steps on a
not confirming, you seem to be the only one to get this issue, could be
something specific to your configuration. do you use network-manager to
connect? do you get the weather if you wait after adding a location?

I've tried all of the Montreal locations (search Montreal -> Saint-
Hubert, Dorval or Mirabel), but usually use Saint-Hubert.
I've also tried Gatwick Airport in London (search Gatwick) to see if it
was a problem with the Montreal locations; the same bug showed up with
it.
