Ok. I understand. So this is not a bug.
Well then, you can close the bug report. I managed to encode to h264
using acidrip/mencoder.

not that I knew.
ffmpeg could in theory link against x264, but we cannot do so in ubuntu,
because x264 is in multiverse whereas ffmpeg is in main.
if ffmpeg could load x264 at runtime instead of at load time then we
could enable it. promoting x264 is a no-go, IMO.

I was using DVD::RIP and it was working just fine some time ago (didn't
use it for a while). It has ffmpeg/h264 in the video codecs selection,
but I seem I can't use them.
Has anything happen lately with dvd:RIP/transcode/ffmpeg?
