How are you trying to play audio? Are you using applications that use
pulseaudio directly, or are you using applications that use alsa, whicih
then goes via pulseaudio? What applications are you using to play

Sound output from PulseAudio replaced with
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
After a recent update, PulseAudio no longer outputs sound, but instead a
series of popping noises.
Applications that attempt to use raw OSS (aside from having no hardware
mixing) produce perfect sound.
