OK, thanks for that hint. Switching from fglrx to vesa doesn't seem to
make a difference.

I really do appreciate your help with this. Here is the result of the

the new stacktrace has no debug symbols, could you install
"libxcb1-dbgsym libx11-6-dbgsym libglib2.0-0-dbgsym libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym
nautilus-dbgsym" and get an another one? could you run "env" on a
command line and copy that to a comment? Do you have the issue if you
don't use the "fglrx" video drive

Every time I boot, I get a gray box in the upper left corner. If it
doesn't go away after 30 seconds, I restart X, and I either get a gnome
error (see attached image) about half the time or a regular desktop the
other half of the time. I only get the crash report for nautilus
intermittently.

Are your wallpaper and the files on the desktop normally drawn? If so,
Nautilus is normally running. When it crashes, do those go away, or
does it restart?
