Isn't this the same bug as #256296?
Unload the 'option' driver and the 'hso' module, then reload the 'hso'
module, and it should work. Blacklisting the 'option' module and
rebooting should work as well.

I do encounter the same issue with my ICON 225 modem on intrepid. Enclosing
lshal and relevant dmesg.
Unfortunately on Intrepid the pharscape.org drivers do not compile anymore.
