You can use a KDE3-style menu by right clicking on the launcher icon and selecting "Switch to Classic Menu style". And trust me, I share your dislike of Kickoff. I just wonder how we could resolve this bug in Ubuntu? The very nature of Kickoff is a one-pane type of menu, so using something else
