Setting AHCI in the bios solved the issue at hand. I dont use windows. However
I think the installer (casper) should say something about that, not just
dropping into the shell.
I am closing this bug.

Hello,
I just bought an ASUS P5Q-E motherboard and I resolved the problem by setting
SATA devices as AHCI in the storage configuration section in the bios.
Don't forget to install intel ahci drivers on windows before changing this
setting.
