Did you test it yourself? I just tested it on two VirtualBox
installations of Ubuntu 8.10 beta:
32-bit Ubuntu 8.10 beta with all the latest updates
OpenOffice version: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2
Sun Java version: 6-07-4ubuntu2
OpenJDK Java version: 6b12-0ubuntu1
64-bit Ubuntu 8.10 beta with all the latest
It was set because I believe this bug is already fixed in 8.10 and Colin
probably hit the Add button before it had time to show up, as when I
went to the option it took several seconds to show up.

For me in Intrepid, Add... fails, but OOo already has
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/ listed (at least after I cancelled
Add... for the first time; I don't think it was there to start with).
