I had the same problem on a Fujitsu-Siemens si1520 laptop. I have tried
two different brands of USB thumbdrives and they both gave same error.
It ended up being to the fact that I had installed Ubuntu by using a USB
stick instead of cd, so /dev/sdb1 was mounted as being the CD-rom, hence
the confil
Thanks for the response. Changing fstab fixed everything. I will
probably reinstall Intrepid a few times before release so I'll leave a
message here if I can reproduce the error.

The problem might be a miswritten fstab file so it started working.If
possible you can attach your fstab which went wrong here and the one
that is working too,Since you solved it already i'm marking this as
invalid.Can you reproduce the error if possible? If problems reappear
you can ask in support
I fixed this myself by copying my wifes copy of fstab from her (same
model) eee pc running Hardy Heron.
Maybe Fstab being weird is because I installed using a USB stick with
Unetbootin?
