the package kdeplasma-addons was not installed! installing that package fixed
my problem. the only
thing i do not understand is why the 2 widgets show up in the list of widgets,
even though they cannot
be installed (because not present) ? or is that just an ubuntu packaging
problem ?

any idea in which directory of the harddisk i can find the widgets ?
i can see in the adept_manager that the following packages are installed:
kdebase-workspace
kdebase-workspace-bin
kdebase-workspace-data
kdebase-workspace-libs4+5
the version is always 4:4.
Are you sure everything got upgraded?
