It was fixed (I don't remember anymore how, but I think it was a matter
of adding vga=something to the grub stanza) In the latest karmic
everything works perfectly

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in

Hmm, it seems that removing "vga=791" fixed the problem.
Anyway I see this as a bug, since that statement should give the exact
same output with or without.
I guess this is a bug in grub and/or the linux kernel and/or the getty
program.
