Daniel: thanks, but changing fragment size and fragment duration in
daemon.conf do not fix the issue (I tried many different values, but
with no success).
I still believe this to be a bug, since it started happening really
recently (two weeks or so) and only in Jaunty, on a really common
soundcard
Brandon, sorry, I meant /etc/pulse/daemon.conf.
Matteo, there is no setting that works out of the box for all possible
audio hardware. Sorry, but it's just an intractable issue.

Happens also in Jaunty.
Not sure if a normal user should edit default.pa just to have a simple
mic recorder work, or ekiga... it should work out of the box.

There are fragment size adjustments you can make to
/etc/pulse/default.pa.
