Now (ubuntu 9.04) pidgin displays a message to say the action is not
supported by the server.
I tried Empathy but it has no option to block contacts.

I think it's a problem with the jabber.org server.
Here is what I did when I reported this bug :
I used two jabber.org accounts on two computers on my LAN.
When I tried to block a contact I was seeing him disconnected, but he could see
me connected.

any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04?
