I have Nautilus 2.22.3.
I have run updates since I made this bug report. I just tried to copy a
folder into itself and I received an error dialog, so it appears it has
been fixed in one of the updates I applied.

I'm new to Launchpad (and Linux) so I'm not sure if I
thank you for your bug report, what nautilus version do you use? the
issue should be fixed in the hardy updates
