Yesterday, I have installed Inteprid Alpha 3 from scratch, and have yet
to experience this problem. Maybe it's gone. I'll keep you posted.

Not a single file has been touched in /var/log, not even syslog. I will

With these changes, X does not start any more (blue console warning
about not being able to start X).
I was just about to attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log, when I noticed that this
one hasn't been touch since yesterday. Strange, I would expect the
error(s) from just 10 minutes ago to be logged there.

Could you try adding the line
Option "PreferredMode" "1024x768"
to your xorg.conf monitor section and
Option "ModeDebug" "true"
to your Device section?
Please attach the resulting /var/log/Xorg.0.log after a X restart.
