The pc speaker works, evidenced by beeps whenever bios detects an error
during startup, or when booting directly into FreeDOS. But it does not
work when Ubuntu is loaded.

updated comments for quite some time. Please let us know if this issue
remains in the current Ubuntu release,

This bug is fixed in the 2.6.28 kernel series. I haven't confirmed
resolution in Ubuntu, as I'm currently re-exploring Gentoo.
snd-hda-intel has to be built as a module, and the option for "digital
beep" must be selected. If built in, the beep will remain absent.

The bug is still present in the 2.6.27 kernel. I tested it using a
fresh install from the 20080829 amd64 desktop daily-live. I expect it
is present in 2.6.26 also, but have not specifically tested.

Since the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is actively being worked
on, care to confirm if this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for
the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. I know they are working on updating the
