I'm experiencing the same issue, but i'm not getting any output if
runned by the command line, ir only shows: "Segmentation fault (core
dumped)" when crashing.

i run ubuntu hardy, 8.04,
pidgin crash continues,
most of the tiem, crashes, just i start typing in a chat window...
in below output, my pidgin crashed, after typing in a chat windows and
just press enter...:
my other programs/system works normally.. i have no other problem... i
use tr locale...
Alright... are you running Hardy or Intrepid?

pidgin no longer startup even

i tested for one day, used only msn network,
i saw error on console as on bottom:

i use ubuntu-8.04 on a hp nc8430 notebook. on a common network.

i was using with msn, yahoo, gmail
i deleted .purple,
now i added only msn, to test one by one.
now everything seems to work ok. i will test a few days. then i will add yahoo..
