kungmidas, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, cou

Hi kungmidas,
Thanks for the update. In order to install the 2.6.27 kernel from your
Hardy installation you'd have to enable the Intrepid repository in your
sources.list file. If you're not familiar with how to do this, I'd just
wait until you have time to test the latest Alpha. Thanks.

Unfortunately I am running 8.04 and I don't know how to upgrade the
kernel to anything newer than 2.6.24-21...
Also, I will be unavailable for most of September so I am unable to test
Alpha 5 when it becomes available. When I am able to try it, I will.
Here's a recap with the most relevant info
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Sorry, the workaround I stumbled upon was just a coincidence... For
some, probably random reason, the delay was reduced to ~5 seconds for a
number of boots. However, I have now found a REAL workaround... =)
With splash disabled, I looked carefully at the boot text and found that
the freezes were f
I just found a kind of workaround:
If I disable the splash screen (either by removing the "splash"
parameter in grub before booting, or changing grub's configuration),
there is no freeze!
Still, the ntfs sata drive is not automounted, so I guess that is an
unrelated issue.

I tried booting my system from the "desktop-i386" iso of ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04.1

7.10 did not have this problem (also, it did not detect my built in sata hd at
all)
8.04 had the exact same problem (and the built in hd was detected, but NOT

One thing you could do is to install bootchart and attach one of this
charts here to this bugreport. Please execute the following command:
sudo apt-get install bootchart
and post the bootchart from
/var/log/bootchart/
here. Thank you.

Changing the "SATA Native Mode" BIOS setting from Enabled to Disabled does not
affect anything.
When I installed the system, SATA Native Mode was Enabled.
BIOS is of the latest available version.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
