Looks like a hardware problem to me too.
You could try to isolate one of the servers that has the problem fairly
often, make it run on just one disk for some time (e.g. off office
hours, after the backup). Power off, remove a disk, power on and run
fsck, reboot, simulate some load for some, reboot
Sorry for my weak descriptions.
here is a hopefully better list:
Server 1: (Dapper)
Tyan Tomcat i7230W
3,20GHz Pentium 541 S775
RAID bus controller: Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 1420SA (weak driver support
known)
4x Samsung 320GB S-ATA2
disk 0+1 as raid 1
disk 2+3 as raid 1
both raid devices in on
Sorry, but it would be much more helpful if you could be extremely
precise with your statements; maybe it's an language problem, but some
of your statements, especially your parenthetical comments, are very
hard for me to parse as valid english and then make semantic sense out
of them. For example

Would you like to clarify exactly what is going on...?

Sure sounds like a hardware problem to me. I'm not sure how you've
concluded that it's not a hardware problem
