Dear Chris and Ubuntu developers team: I found that actually the misbehaviour
was because I had one sim of 512mb bad - actually the socket was very dirty.
After removing it and cleaning the motherboard I found none problem at all with
Ubuntu.

Please forget all the garbish I said before, I finally narrowed this
bug: I don't know why but 'System>Administration>Login window' will fail
to load +when BRASERO+ is running - at least burning.
If you have the time please check this issue, burn a DVD and try to
launch GDM. Thanks.

Nope, as I mentioned before I first installed Ubuntu Hardy on a clean
system, that is, formating all three hard disk and making new
partitions.

Are you installing while keeping your old /home directory? That could
be causing problems. And you mentioned the install in a VM "runs
smooth" which I assume means "doesn't have the same problem as what this
bug report is about". Is this correct?

yes I can, gksudo synaptic runs smooth.
Don't you experience same issue? I think it's product of a recent update
so I expect this to be spread wide among Ubuntu users.

*UPDATE*
I can launch GDMSETUP by login in a Terminal Safe session and then typing 'sudo
gdmsetup'.
I still would like to know why I can't launch this from my user session..
