Sorry my fault the version that ubuntu studio DOES NOT work with is
2.6.24-18 however it does work for 2.6.24-16

I was talking about the graphics card. The kernel can load correctly if
you load it in recovery mode, then select to fix xserver and then run.
I have find this bug to be reproduceable with intel graphics cards. Can
you confirm this?
