sudo apt-get clean would have cleaned out that entire directory for you, thus
eliminating the problem. I am closing this bug now.
For future reference, if you have problems that you don't think are bugs, try

Thanks Connor all sorted.
All I did was remove all the corrupted downloded files and reupdate again
and is fine.
