As of Amarok 2, Amarok uses the Phonon audio layer to play all of its
audio and does not use any custom engines itself. If you still
experience this problem with Amarok2, please file a bug against Phonon.

Can you please do one more test? Try to change the engine in Amarok and play
the file with that engine. You might need to install another one with the
package manager.

other engine than xine on hardy). And I can play the whole mp3 with it.

It works with totem, xine-ui, vlc and SMplayer.
Amarok uses the xine engine.
Something to add :
just before the limit where it stop playing, no sound is played whereas
rhythmbox plays something at that time.

Can you please try it with another engine? You can choose another one in the
settings.
What happens if you play that file in another player that uses xine? (I assume
you use the default engine which is xine.)
