The same happens to me.
The settings of my computer are very similar to the OP's, except that it is a
desktop computer, not a laptop.
All you need to recreate it is to open FireFox for a third time.

On another hand, I download the firefox 3.0 version from Mozilla page
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052912 Firefox/3.0
It works fine with many instances.
It could be something on my computer or it could be something related to
Ubuntu build.
