I have this problem too with hardy on a EPIA CX, showing the following repeated
in dmesg:

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
This is probably not an problem with Ubuntu
The VIA EPIA EX motherboard does not support SATA2 (3Gb/s), only the slower
1,5Gb/s SATA.
Some SATA drives can be configured to work with either 3Gb/s or 1,5Gb/s SATA.
Other question, does your BIOS report 1GB of memory?

It's worth pointing out that I also tried the above installations with
the all_generic_ide=1 option set. Unfortunately, this didn't make any
difference. Adding the noapic and nolapic options made no effect beyond
making the keyboard response very slow.
