This bug would have been solved if the package was moved out of
multiverse and installed by default. Is the brother license incompatible
with the open licences Debian accept?

As noted in Bug #258058 the system picks the wrong driver for a Brother
DCP-7020 even if the newer Brother drivers from multiverse are
installed. I only have that one model printer so I cannot test the
behavior on other Brother models.

Most of this has actually been implemented in Intrepid already (see related
blueprints).
Only the final steps of printerdriverautodownload are needed (basically the
necessary binary printer driver packages need to be hosted on the OpenPrinting
web site).

On Intrepid KDE 4 there's a systray icon saying "Printer 'DCP-120C':
'cups-missing-filter'". By clicking on it there doesn't come jockey or adept to
install the Brother packages (as I expected) but only the Document Print Status
window what's obviously useless.
