Gedit is a text editor, but I see no reason to prevent it from opening a
binary file even if its garbled and the user cant get anything
meaningful from it.
At least it could have a "This is an non-text file, so there is no
reason for you to open it. Click "Open anyways" if you want open it
anyways
I used Windows and in Notepad, I often opened non-text files.
Example, I would open executables and be able to find some meaningful
data. Sometimes, I found passwords for trojans. I discovered what email
address the keylogger send to, etc. I even saw some libraries that the
program called.
Maybe
Thanks for reporting this issue.
This is not really a bug. Gedit is an editor for text files. You try to
open a binary file. There is no meaningful representation of such files
in a texteditor. I am not sure why you try to do this. Maybe you want to
try a hexeditor like hexedit instead.
Thanks ag
