In the meantime, it recognised the webcam. You see, it has 2 modes:
1) as a webcam and
2) the other as a photo camera, with additional disk, so it sees it as an
external disk.
So, that is cool and it is an improvement on the previous version of Ubuntu, in
my experience.

Regarding to root problem, in fact Ubuntu is primarily not allowed user
log in as root. In terminal you should at sudo to change things with
root authority, or go to login windows from administration to set up the
root allowance for your system. For the webcam, in the terminal please
type scanimage
Sorry, a mistake: the Philips webcam is 1.3 mp.

When I used the default [the recommended] one bjc600 - nothing happened!
"Error..."
I tried others, like Canon MultiPASS C5000 Foomatic/bjc600 (recommended)
– that worked but it, then, prints really small!
Finally, when I installed Canon PIXMA MP
