I agree, this version is pretty bad. Maybe version 1.3.5 is better. It
would be nice have a new version in hardy-updates.

And just one appreciation more. This version (1.3.4-1.1ubuntu1) is
completely buggy and unstable. audacity_1.3.3-1ubuntu0.1
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy-updates/i386/audacity/download) from
gusty packages works perfect, no crash, no hangs.

Ok, I can confirm that switching to ALSA (System → Preferences → Sound)
and changing Audacity preferences to use ALSA Default solves the
problem. So, it's a conflict between PulseAudio and Audacity.
