I have bought a new NL keyboard and gave away the old German keyboard to
someone else. So I cannot check anymore whether this bug still affects
me. So maybe it can be closed unless someone else experiences the same
issue at a later point.

sorry but the issue is still not solved. But I am buying a new external
NL keyboard soon (partly due to this small problem of each time
"resetting" the settings again) so in a way that would solve the
problem. But just not the bug.

I have standard 8.04 Gnome + K- and a Spanish USB keyboard which worked
fine until a couple of days, when the system could not find it, even
though the keyboard was present at USB port.
