At least on jaunty, sqlite3's debian/rules has:
DEB_OPT_FLAG := -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -DSQLITE_ENABLE_COLUMN_METADATA
-DSQLITE_ENABLE_FTS3 -DSQLITE_ENABLE_RTREE=1
-DSQLITE_ENABLE_FTS3 should really be -DSQLITE_ENABLE_FTS3=1 and
-DSQLITE_CORE=1 should be
