Yes it did. Today, when I started gThumb, there are no longer problems
at all. Why not? I don't know; I did nothing after my reaction: "/After
posting the former comment I discovered that when I returned to my
normal account it works too there?!?!?!

You can try deleting all your old gthumb settings with:
rm -r ~/.gconf/apps/gthumb ~/.gnome2/gthumb
However, the similar problem you have with brasero might indicate that you have
a general problem with permissions on your account and files. You can try to
clean it up with something like this:

Thanks for your report. What error messages do you get when you start it
without sudo? There can be some old settings causing problems. Please
create a new user account and try running gthumb in it.
