'ntfsfix' did not fix it either. Here is the output:

I would be interested to know whether running 'sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda2'
from Ubuntu deals with this. (This has been a problem in the past, but I
thought it was no longer an issue ...)

Sven: exactly which of supergrub's facilities do you think will help? In
any case I would prefer that you not recommend this since it's likely to
obscure our ability to figure out why we've apparently broken Vista's
boot ...
